Why Should We Beef Up Security At Mahamas Church If The Prez Is Not There? Koku Queries

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho believes it is absolutely inappropriate for National Security personnel to stand guard at the Ringway Gospel Centre branch of the Assemblies of God Church; where President John Dramani Mahama and his family worships, every day.

According to him, if the president is not attending service on a particular day, surveillance at the church by state security is not needed.

If the president is not going to church, why should we beef up security at the church?” he queried.

An Accra circuit slapped a 10-year jail term on the man who was arrested for possession of firearms without lawful excuse at the church of President John Mahama last Sunday.

The court passed the judgment after the alleged assassin, Charles Antwi told the judge he carried the gun with the intent to “kill the president”.

His speedy prosecution has raised many questions – some have accused the National Security of not “doing their work well”.

But Koku Anyidoho has rubbished such accusations - “Don’t blame the National Security”.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, Ghana Montie, Mr Anyidoho, a former Communications Director during the erstwhile Mills' administration told Akwasi Aboagye, host of the show that – “It’s a place of worship and the National Security cannot pack security men with guns at the church. They need their privacy as well. After all, a security man was there to arrest the man”.
