The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has handed over equipment worth US$137,500 to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) under the Technical Cooperation Project for Electrical Engineers Training for African countries.
JICA donated the following for training purposes: Portable cable fault locator, Oil tester, Primary current injection test set, Secondary injection test set and Portable power quality analyzer.
According to the Chief Representative of JICA, Mr. Koji Makino, “As you are all aware, the Government of Ghana has been putting emphasis on the universal access of electricity to achieve equitable and inclusive economic development of Ghana. We are also quite aware the government is putting emphasis not only on construction of distribution facility, but also the maintenance of the facility. In this regard, every year, ECG employs engineers and technicians and provides the mandatory trainings to effectively maintain ECG facilities.”
He continued: ‘This project is called: “technical cooperation on electrical engineers training for African countries”, in which Japanese experts are deployed to support ECG Training center for updating the training curriculum, renewing training equipment and brushing up of trainer’s capacity. And through those activities, we aim to enhance the quality of training and professionalism on the job.”
Managing Director of ECG, Mr. Robert Dwamena, promised that: “This generous gesture and technical co-operation will further strengthen the bond of friendship between the Government of Japan and Ghana. We will utilise the equipment to improve teaching and learning at the Training Centre.”
