Policy think tank, IMANI Ghana, has pegged the performance of the John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress government on its 2012 manifesto promise at 47 percent.
The assessment was based on government’s performance in the power sector, economy, education and governance, which the President of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe said, is critical to the development of any developing country.
Presenting a detailed report of the assessment, Assistant Research Director at IMANI Ghana, Maud Martei, noted that government’s best performance was the education sector followed by governance, economy and power sector.
According to him government scored 65 percent in the educational sector, 43 percent on governance, 36.4 percent on the management of the economy and six percent on its handling of the power sector.
While commending government for the achievements at the education sector, he stated that there are a lot to be done to deliver the quality education promised by President Mahama.
Maud Martei stated that details of the report will be made available to the media and the general public today.
Responding to questions on why government scored low on the energy when there are evidence of ongoing works to fix the problem, Maud Martei explained that “the assessment is a continuous process subject to review, so when it gets to the time that government is able to fix the challenge, we will review our rating.”
He tasked government to step up its game in delivering on its manifesto promise, particularly in key sectors of the economy.
He said the overall score of 47 percent is a “satisfactory” performance but there is more room for improvement before the four-year term ends.
