Harrison Afful joins MLS side Columbus Crew

Ghanaian fullback Harrison Afful has joined MLS side Columbus Crew despite interest from several Asian and European teams according to Ghanasoccernet.

The 29 year old ended his contract with Tunisian giants Esperance after a 6 year spell that saw him win the Caf Champions league and several domestic titles.

Afful who is a vastly experienced international has featured in four African Cup of nations for the Black Stars and was also a member of the Black Stars Brazil 2014 World Cup squad.

Afful has already declared his intent to assimilate the culture and tactics of the team to enable him settle in quickly in his new surroundings and with his teammates.

“I just hope I’ll be able to adapt to the system of the team and then make sure I will do my best for the club, even though it’s a short time. But for me, I believe in myself and I know I can do it. Even though it’s a big challenge for me, I believe I can do well for the club,” he said.

The player added that he is looking to quickly put in the work to help him perform at his optimal level.

“I always say one thing to myself. I already have the talent, so if you have the talent, you need to work. You need to work more. This is a great challenge I have taken in. I need to work a lot to get to my standard. And there is a saying: to be at the top is easy, but to maintain it is very difficult. So, I’m just hoping I’ll maintain my performance,” he told the clubs official website.
