It gets confirmed day-after-day that, ex-President John A. Kufour’s secret meeting at his Airport West residence with some party men including, clergymen to seek divine intervention for peace in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), did not achieve anything fruitful results.

Once again, the frosty relationship at the Asylum Down Headquarters of the NPP in Accra, is out with two national executives, drawing swords on themselves, ready to begin another bout.

The elected officers, General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, and National Treasurer, Kwabena Abankwa Yeboah, are busying themselves with issuing counter instructions to regional party executives, meaning that indeed, the NPP is in total disorder.

The two national officers, who are divided along the Kufour bloc and the Nana Akufo-Addo bloc, are fighting over who is the rightful officer to issue a letter for the commencement of issuance of NPP membership cards across the country.

Copies of two letters intercepted by The Herald, indicate how the party was being managed by the men out of ego, instead of reason.
The General Secretary, issued a letter dated Friday, July 31, headlined “Issuance of Party Membership Cards’’ recommending a company by name PAYMENEX Limited to conduct the exercise, but the National Treasurer, fired a counter Memo dated Saturday, August 1, challenging the eligibility of the Paymenex Limited to embark on the exercise.

Mr. Abankwa-Yeboah’s memo insisted that, it was only the NPP National Executive Committee (NEC) that approves recommendations, decisions and activities of the Standing Committee of the party in accordance with Article 9(b) of the party’s Constitution.

He disclosed that, the engagement of Paymenex Limited by his General Secretary, did not follow the procedure enshrined in the NPP Constitution, and for that matter the NPP Regional chairman, regional secretaries, constituency chairmen, and secretaries, should ignore Mr. Agyapong’s directive.

Mr. Abankwa Yeboah’s memo indicated that, the only proposal before the Steering Committee, the National Executive Committee and the National Council as per letters dated Friday February 20, Monday March 23 and March 27, 2015 respectively.

These documents he stated, details how the cards are issued at a cost of seven Ghana Cedis, out of which one Ghana Cedis each is to go into the coffers of the Constituency, the region and National party.

Mr. Abankwah Yeboah’s memo, however, suggested criminality on the part of the General Secretary saying, unlike Mr. Agyapong’s letter, his letters to the regional offices are to ensure proper accountability and receipting of all collections as per the monies collected into various party accounts, adding “No private account shall collect party funds”.
