Mawuli JHS Begs For School Furniture; MCE Bemoans Lack Of GETFund Project In The School

The Headmistress of Mawuli Junior High School (JHS), Mrs. Nancy Ocloo says lack of furniture has forced a good number of students of the school in Ho to carry tables and chairs to school regularly.

Mrs Ocloo, giving her status report at the commissioning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for the school complex, built by the School’s Parent Teachers Association (PTA), said the JHS had only 50 mono desks donated by the Municipal Assembly for the 315 students last academic year.

Mrs Ocloo lamented that the Basic School Complex, since its establishment in 1979, had no GETFund or government project and commended the PTA for its support over the years; therefore appealing to government and other stakeholders for support in education.

She maintained saying Mawuli School Complex is in dire need of an additional ICT laboratory, a kindergarten and decent toilet facilities for the about 1,200 pupils and students.

Mrs Ocloo also stressed that though the School complex has hundreds of reading materials, it lacks a library facility where the pupils and students will make good use of the books.

Mr. Foster Agotse, Volta Regional Manager of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) Schools revealed Mawuli Basic School is the only school in his Unit with no single GETFund project; commending the School’s PTA for building all classroom blocks, offices and toilet facilities in the School and the GH¢ 40,500.00 ICT laboratory.

“This is complete community participation and I’m full of admiration for your PTA,” he stated.

Mrs Fafa Adinyira, Ho Municipal Chief Executive expressed surprise that the school had no GETFund project and therefore tasked the authorities of the school to make fresh requests for some projects to accommodate the increasing enrolment in the school.

She also commended the PTA for “storming the odds” for 36 years and keeping the school among the top performers in the Municipality.

Mrs Adinyira said ICT is now indispensable in curricular development and implementation; advising both teachers and students to put the facility to good use.

Nana Frititi II, PTA Chairman of the School complex, said the vision for the School is to restore its academic glory and be the best basic public school in the Volta Region.
