Olympic Games Failure Is A Blow To Nyantakyi's Administration - Oti Akenten Bemoans

Ghana Football Association Technical Director, Francis Oti Akenten has expressed worry over the country's failure to present a football team at the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.

The FA's head of technical directorate believes that the inability of Ghana to qualify for three successive Olympics Football Competitions casts a huge slur on the Ghana current football administration, reiterating that the situation is lamentable.

"Since President (Kwesi Nyantakyi) came to office, I think the Olympic Games is one competition that his administration has failed qualify", Oti Akenten told Atinka FM."We have struggled to find an antidote to our inability to qualify for all the previous competitions and it is very worrying...The Meteors tried and even progressed from the preliminary stages but were undone by Congo on penalties and the Queens also went on draw in Cameroon but suprisingly bottled it up at home".

"In all, I must say that we all were looking forward to the teams qualification," He added.

The last time Ghana fielded a team at the Olympic Games was in 2004 in Athens, Greece, where the Black Meteors under the tutelage of Portuguese manager Mariano Barreto suffered a group stage elimination. The National U-23 Male side, Black Meteors failed to qualify to the final stage of the 2016 Olympic qualifiers after losing 5-4 on penalties to Congo in Brazzaville in May this year.

Ghana have been regulars at the the Olympics with notable appearances in 1992, 1996, 2004 and 1964. But it was in 1992 where the Black Meteors became the first African side to win a medal by clinching bronze.
