Four In Trouble Over Grave Looting

Four people have run into trouble with the law for looting a grave at Ntensere, a farming community in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District. Victor Boakye, car dealer; James Kwame Nsiah, a pastor; Eric Kwadwo Acheampong, footballer; and Kofi Owusu, a driver; were on Wednesday put before the Nkawie Circuit Court. They pleaded not guilty to the offence and were each granted GHȼ10,000 bail with two sureties. Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi told the Court, presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey, that the accused had looted two graves at the Oyoko royal family cemetery. The century-old graves held the remains of two deceased royals, Kwame Opong and Kwabena Nimfuo, who are believed to have been buried with gold as had been the customary practice in the past. The prosecution said Boakye in his caution statement said he sent the three other accused persons to carry out renovation works on the marked graves, which he claimed were collapsing. He said physical inspection by the police did not, however, support the claim.
