Frimpong Boateng Criticizes Decision

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof. Frimpong Boateng has criticized the decision that Doctors should discharge a one-year national service under the National Service Scheme (NSS). Prof. Frimpong Boateng, who criticized the decision on Peace FMs Morning Show Kokrokoo, said Doctors posted straight from the Medical School may not be able to handle serious cases when they come face to face with medical complications. According to him, the doctors already offer two years housemanship where they acquire practical knowledge in dealing with serious cases and that should suffice. There is therefore no need for another year of National Service. He added that the doctors job is sacrificial so if we give them more tasks, it will look as if their services are not appreciated and that will de-motivate them. Expressing his feelings, he said, most of the students nowadays pay their own fees and so it will be unfair for them (doctors) to offer National Service after two years houseman-ship. The former CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital was speaking in reaction to The Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Mr Vincent Senam Kuagbens statement at a forum on service personnel, in Takoradi. He had said that Doctors, who pass through the countrys tertiary educational system would from the next service year, perform a one-year National Service, under the NSS.
