Mobile Phone Users Demand Quality Service

Mobile phone users are demanding quality service delivery following reports of excessive profits by telecom operators. According to the industry regulator, National Communication Authority, MTN, the leading mobile telephone company as at April, 2009, makes a monthly profit of $8.00 per subscriber, and with its 6.8 million subscribers, the network makes a monthly revenue of $54 million or GH81 million. Tigo on the other hand makes GH23 million per month from its 2.9 million subscribers. Vodafone makes GH 12 million and Zain makes a little over GH4 million. Even though the data by the NCA did not include the cost of operation, subscribers say they have been shortchanged by the operators and have called for better service delivery. Sector Minister, Haruna Iddrisu in an earlier interview was unhappy with the quality of service provided by the operators but said the NCA has procured a spectrum and quality of service monitoring device to improve upon service delivery. Even before this devise will be fully deployed, some subscribers in an interview with Joy News said the service they receive must be commensurate with the profit margins. In the first place I think they are doing well, but on the other hand, I dont think the services are value for my money. I am from Bawku, when I get immediately out of Bawku I dont get MTN. Most times when u call its jammed, one of them said. Another, said the service quality is not as good as it should be. Call drops, no connection. When you really need to make a phone call. In terms of that, I dont think Im getting value for money. But I need my mobile phone. It is a business tool so I have to keep using it. He insists he keeps three mobile phones with different networks but the quality of service is not any better in all of them. Some also complained of poor customer service and have asked the operators to up their services.
