We Did Not Swear An Oath Of Poverty Doctors

The only way to get striking doctors back to work is for government to give them a signed and sealed conditions of service, President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has said. According to Dr. Opoku Edusei, doctors did not swear an oath of poverty thus their resolve to demand what is due them.

The strike declared by doctors is having negative effects on health delivery in public hospitals across the country. The doctors are demanding condition of service and threatened to resign from the profession by August 14 if their demands are not met. Negotiations to get the matter resolved hit a snag over the weekend after the GMA rejected a counter proposal by government – an allegation the doctors have denied.

Speaking on Accra-based Oman FM, Dr. Opoku Edusei bemoaned what he described as the communist inferior tactics adopted by government. He explained that, the posture taken by government which is being propagated by its communicators is just to incite Ghanaians against them. This, he maintained will not deter them from demanding their condition of service.

Dr. Opoku Edusei said until government give them a better condition of service, ‘aluta continua’. "We did not swear an oath of poverty; we need a signed and sealed condition of service document and we will go back to work” he stressed.
