An educationist, has asked the government to stop the lip service and act to provide schools with the required tools for smooth academic work.     

Mr. Godwin M.K. Sadzi, Chairman for the Hohoe Municipal Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS), said the situation where the schools often run out of teaching and learning materials must not continue.     

He cited instances in the last academic year where teachers in the Hohoe Municipality were forced to use their own money to purchase chalk, lesson notebooks, registers and terminal report cards and said this was not helpful.     

Mr. Sadzi made the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akyawkrom near Ejisu when he led members of the Association on a three-day educational tour of the Ashanti Region.     

The group visited the Barekese Dam, Manhyia Museum, Centre for National Culture and the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ GNAT Village at Abankro.     

He expressed discomfort with what he said was political interference with the management of the basic schools.      It was important to de-politicize education to allow for consistency in the implementation of the nation’s education policies and save schools from collapsing, he added.
