Catholic Church Decision To Dismiss 14 Doctors Was Hasty - Sammy Awuku

Sammy Awuku, National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed disgust over the dismissal of 14 doctors by the management of the National Catholic Health Service.

Chairman of the Diocesan Health Service board of the Catholic Church in Techiman, Rev. Father John Kofi Takyi supported the decision by the Catholic Health Service and explain that the action by the dismissed doctors contravened the principles of the Catholic Church.

14 doctors including junior and senior house officers of the Holy Family Hospital were dismissed for expressing solidarity to the striking medical doctors.

But speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Sammy Awuku described the decision as "hasty" and therefore called on the leadership of the Catholic Church to intervene on behalf of the victims.

According to him, the Health Service of the Catholic Society should have adopted a proper approach to address the issue.

“I disagree strongly with the position that the Catholic hospital took because I think it was hasty. And two, they could have adopted a much more proper medium.”
