We Want Mulish Voters & Fighters To Elect NDC Leaders - Koku Anyidoho

On November 7th 2015, members of the ruling National Democratic Congress would visit the polls to elect their Flagbearer and Parliamentary candidates for next year’s General Elections.

However, the electoral process will not allow unregistered members to participate in the process. This was a revelation made by the ruling party’s Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Koku Anyidoho during Peace FM’s Midday News Bulletin on Friday.

According to him, the NDC has segmented their voters into “loyalists” and “sympathizers” and has made no provisions for voters who fall under the “sympathizers” category, to partake in the process.

He however mentioned that party loyalists with a fighting character would be registered and given identification cards to allow them exercise their franchise.

He defined party loyalists of the NDC as persons who are ready to physically attack an opponent in a bus should anybody insult the NDC in their presence.

Within the NDC we have people we refer to as loyalists and sympathizers. The latter wouldn’t be at party rallies and wouldn’t even act if someone insulted the party in their presence.

"They would only vote for the party during elections. But with our loyalists, they would fight even in the trotro (privately owned minibus) if someone insulted the party in their presence. These are the characters we believe must vote during our parliamentary and presidential elections to determine who they want to lead the party,” he said.

As published by Peacefmonline.com on Thursday, per the modalities for the party’s upcoming parliamentary and presidential primaries, nominations will open on the 27th August and close on 10th September.

The ruling party has also decided that, all registered members will have the opportunity to exercise their franchise, thereby scrapping the Electoral College that earlier existed.

Addressing a news conference in Accra, moments after a hih-level National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, General Secretary for the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, revealed that filing fees for male Parliamentary aspirants has been pegged at GHC 10,000, whiles women and the physically challenged are expected to pay GHC 5,000.
