Asiedu Nketiah Rubbishes Statesman's Publication About Him Undermining Mahama's Authority

The news which has made headline in ‘The New Statesman’ Monday August 17, 2015 edition that the authority of President Mahama is being undermined by the General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has been debunked by the latter.

The New Statesman in its Monday August 17, 2015 publication writes “President John Dramani Mahama has warned the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to stop undermining his authority in the party.”

“The President is reported to have given the warning before storming out of a National Executive Council meeting held to determine modalities for the party’s Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries,” the newspaper reported.

The newspaper again said an Executive of the party who refused to be named said the President felt threatened by the decision, believing it to be another attempt by the Pro-Ahwoi faction to take control of the party.

“Mahama doesn’t agree with the decisions. He knows who he wants in Parliament but this decision would get people the President doesn’t want in Parliament and he would have to make them Ministers or Deputies by force.

This also opens the door for chaos in the party. If the party in 2012 decided that the acting President should not be contested, he does not understand why the party will scheme to allow a contest when he’s now a ‘real’ President,” he explained.

But reacting to this story on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Asiedu Nketiah rubbished the story saying “there is no time to waste the ears of Ghanaians to discuss this frivolous story”; insisting his party is not prepared to give room for social media story being carried by ‘The New Statesman’.

He however quizzed saying “if something happened, why the media didn’t ask for explanation at the press conference we had with them immediately after our National Executive meeting?; wondering why people have chosen to believe stories from the social media.

He therefore discredited the story saying “don’t waste Ghanaians time and ears about this information because the way our meeting ended successfully with one accord without infighting is what is hurting some people; we are not like the NPP to end our meeting in a social media.”
