Electoral Disputes Repercussions More Devastating Than Spending Money On New Voters Register - John Boadu

The National Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP], John Boadu, has justified reason for the Electoral Commission and the country to accept the proposition of the opposition NPP to spend money on new voters’ register for the 2016 general elections.

He posited that the new voters’ register will put to rest all suspicions, mistrust and ensure free and fair in the 2016 general elections as the Supreme Court ruling against the use of National Health Insurance ID card in the recent voters ID card registration is a bad premise to conduct any general election.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, John Boadu averred that the admission by the Electoral Commission at the Supreme Court during the 2012 election petition that one person was able to register 13 times and the commission’s failure to prosecute 700 people who did double registration prior to the 2012 elections are enough evidence and indication for a new voters’ register.

He insisted that the data from the Ghana Statistical Service on certain areas mismatched when compared with the voters’ register in the same areas captured by the GSS during the census; indicating these findings have informed his Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and the Running Mate, Dr. Bawumia to explain to Ghanaians the need for a new voters’ register.

He however surmised that the repercussion from electoral disputes throughout Africa and other parts of the world as a result of the voters’ register is huge; thus it will be wrong to consider the money which will spend on new voters’ register than the effects of an electoral dispute.

“I think it is important to recognize that electoral disputes happening throughout Africa and other parts of the world as a result of voters’ register, the repercussions incurred by the nations is bigger than any money which will be used for new voters’ register which everybody will accept”.
