Asabee Has Been Released

The former Information Minister, Hon. Asamoah Boateng has been released from the BNI�s cells. He was arrested and detained on last Thursday in connection with alleged malfeasance in the award of contract to his sister-in-law. He was released to his lawyers today and expected to report to the BNI on Monday, August 17, 2009. He might be taken to court on Monday by the BNI, where nine charges including �causing financial loss to the state� brought against him will be heard. He has been charged alongside his wife, Mrs. Zuleika Asamoah Boateng and the former deputy Information Minister, Hon. Frank Akyekum. According to our reporter, Obeng Manu, the former Minister is currently on his way to visit the family of the late Salifu Ahmed who died as a result of protesting against his (Asabee) detention. Sources say the late Salifu Ahmed who joined some NPP faithfuls on Thursday to demonstrate against the arrest of the former minister died as a result of the tear gas and life bullets fired at them by the police.
