"Artists Feel They Are Being Controlled By Their Managers"- Kiki Banson

The former manager of Becca, Kiki Banson has detailed why a lot of artists fall out with their managers. Speaking to George Quaye on Gh Ones Pundit show, he explained that it was due to ignorance on the part of musicians who seem to believe their lives are being controlled. He said; In most of my cases, the artists feel they are being controlled. They forget that their job is to provide the content whereas the manager looks at where to position the brand and make it work. Most of the time, the manager looks far into the future whereas some of these artists live in a fantasy world and do not know what is really going on Speaking on claims that some of the artists leave because they feel they are being cheated financially, he stated such things happen when artists overprice themselves. This happens when the artists overprice themselves and believe some monies are being spent without their knowledge, he said. Adding up to his comments, Mark Okraku Mantey, known for producing and managing artists such as Lord Kenya stated the artists compare themselves and believe they should be taking exactly how much the biggest artist should be taking. Most of the time, they over-prize themselves and think they are big so should charge higher than anyone else but the question remains whether the market is ready to pay for the monies they quote. Mark Okraku continued to mention an instance where Lord Kenya asked him to charge exactly how much Daddy Lumba was charging because he was the biggest artist at the time.
