GHS Provides 4,000 Motor Bikes To Improve Maternal Care

As part of efforts towards reducing maternal and neo-natal mortality, the Ghana Heath Service has provided 4,000 motor bikes to some senior nurses and doctors to facilitate their transportation. Presenting the bikes on behalf of the government at Dodowa, Dr. Asafo Adjei said the government has seen the need to provide the motor bikes because transportation is one of the major factors militating against safe maternal and neo-natal care, especially in the rural areas. He said the bikes will come handy where the roads are bad and narrow that cars cannot ply.Reports filed by our reporter, Akwasi Agyeman say the occasion also saw some experts invited to immediately teach the health workers how to use the facility and the safety measures involved. According to his report, Dr. Asafo Adjei stressed that although government takes other health problems into consideration, this initiative is aimed at eradicating maternal and neo-natal deaths.
