We Simply Want Credible Voters Register For Free And Fair Elections; It Is Not About Winning Or Losing - Nana Akomea

The CommunicationS Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Akomea, says the decision of his party to investigate Ghana’s voters’ register has nothing to do with desperation for power as has been churned out by the ruling party, National Democratic Congress [NDC].

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah believes the call by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for an overhaul of the current voters’ register is a preparatory ground to shift blame in the aftermath of the 2016 general elections.

The opposition party has time and again posited that the electoral register in its current state is incurably flawed and cannot not be relied on for next year's polls.

Reiterating its call for a credible voters register for the 2016 elections, Chief Scribe for the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, pointed out in an interview on Okay FM's "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show that per the current voter register, the voter population is more than 75% of the total population of the country and observed that it can never be the case.

But commenting on the call for a new voter's register on the same platform, General Mosquito as the NDC General Secretary is affectionately called, said the opposition NPP has realized it will lose the 2016 elections, and it is thus preparing the grounds for an excuse to hang its defeat on.

Responding to the NDC Chief Scribe on the same platform, the Director of Communication for the NPP said the work his party is doing about the voters’ register is not whether to win or lose the 2016 elections.

He expatiated that the main purpose of the NPP’s exercise is to get voters’ register which the country will be proud of as a credible register for elections.

“The one thing which the world hails Ghana for is our democracy and peaceful nature; this is the only thing we have as a country. We want our democracy to be complete and one thing which will make it happen is our voters’ register; it is not about winning or losing elections in 2016”, he explained.
