Akwatia Election Ongoing

The Elections in the six polling stations in Akwatia are ongoing. Reports filed by our correspondent Obeng Manu say, everything is peaceful and all the various political parties have carried themselves well, unlike last Sunday when several acts of violence were reported. The Electoral Commission is conducting a re-run election in the six polling stations namely; lorry station A, lorry station B, Yoruba Mosque A, Yoruba Mosque B, Presby High School and AME Zion Church. Taking you a little back, the EC could not declare a winner in the Akwatia Parliamentary Election following a joint writ by the NDC Candidate, Hon. Baba Jama and two other Independent Candidates, Mr Basil Ahiable and Samuel Abrakwah praying the Koforidua High Court to order the EC to conduct fresh Parliamentary Elections but the court ordered the EC to conduct the elections only in the six polling stations where there were alleged ballot box tampering. Speaking on Peace FM, the Eastern Regional Police Command promised to collaborate with the military to bring sanity to the area. Meanwhile, the various political parties have since Sunday, been blaming the police for the actions of the people. In reaction, a member of the Ghana Peace Council, Prof. Opanyin Agyekum has also appealed to the various party sympathizers and the people of Akwatia to maintain peace in the area. He sent this caution to all the political parties thus: if you kill the people to gain power, who will you rule over, he inquired.
