Ill Lead Campaign For Establishment Of Islamic SHS MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Takoradi Constituency, Kobinah Okyere Darko Mensah, has pledged to lead a crusade for the establishment of an Islamic Senior High School (SHS) in Takoradi.

Consequently, he has scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting for September 14 with the view to translating the dream into reality.

The MP, who was addressing hundreds of mourners last Sunday at the final funeral rite of Alhaji Mudaris Baba, a notable religious figure, Islamic scholar and teacher in Takoradi who passed on last week, said he was being motivated by the power and influence which comes with the acquisition of knowledge.

He called for closer collaboration among religious leaders in the country, and urged them to make the establishment of schools a priority.

Addressing the same gathering, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Hudu Yahaya appealed to Ghanaians, particularly Muslim parents, to ensure that their children acquire quality knowledge that would teach them about respect for humanity, assistance to the needy, struggle for survival and hard work, instead of getting involved in criminal activities, among others.

According to him, despite the alarming numbers of unemployed graduates in the system, Ghanaians must continue to sacrifice and acquire knowledge, in order to kick against ignorance.

"For lack of knowledge, people perish," he quoted the Holy Quran to buttress his point, adding that, "Ignorance doesn't know a Fante or Dagomba; ignorance doesn't know NPP or NDC; ignorance is ignorance."

Alhaji Yahaya further said knowledge has always been the catalyst for development, and as the nation strives to sustain its human resource base, it becomes even more imperative for the youth to wholeheartedly embrace the campaign.

The Deputy Western Regional Minister, Alfred Ekow Gyan, who led the government delegation to the funeral, called for closer collaboration among religious leaders in Ghana to promote education in the country.

The various Chief Imams, teacher unions, political heads and clerics in the oil city paid their final respects.
