Gunman's Mum Appeals To Prez Mahama: Help My Son Regain His Sanity, Please!

Though President Mahama’s gunman, Charles Antwi has been released from prison custody on the account of poor judgment and mental illness, the mother of the ex-convict, Madam Afia Agyaponmaa is appealing to President John Mahama to assist financially in treating his son of the mental illness.

According to her, as a poor widow, she has no-one to fall on to fund the medical bills of her son’s treatment at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Madam Afia Agyaponmaa lamented that she barely eats one square meal a day and therefore begged the President to help her son gain his sanity.

“I will plead with the President to help my son gain his sanity; wherever he will take him to for a proper cure, we will be grateful to him together with the lawyers who are helping and interceding for me in this case,” she pleaded.

She professed that though her son committed a great sin in his attempt on the life of President Mahama, her son’s action was influenced by mental illness; still pleading to people in authority for help.

“He has a committed a grievous sin and the truth is that he has lost his mind otherwise he would not have harbored that intention to kill the President,” she asserted.

Narrating how her son’s sickness started, Madam Afia Agyaponmaa revealed “Charles Antwi’s ordeal started in Italy and he was deported to Ghana”; adding that “he ran away to Accra from the herbalist treating him…when he returned home, he kept on saying he was going to overthrow Mahama.”

Charles Antwi is the 7th born out of her 8 children and he has never been married and with no child but possibly a girlfriend, Madam Afia Agyaponmaa told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, host of Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show.
