The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, out-going Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has rallied the nation to hold together to protect the prevailing peace.
He said �what has kept Ghana moving as a country all these years bothers on peace and it is therefore our collective responsibility to avoid actions that could excite needless tension and confusion�.
Most Rev Prof Asante, who is also Chairman of the National Peace Council, was speaking at a thanksgiving and valedictory service held in his honour at the Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi.
Four Dioceses of the Methodist Church � Kumasi, Obuasi, Effiduase and Sefwi-Bekwai had jointly organized the service to recognize his hard work, exemplary leadership and dedicated services during his six-year watch as presiding bishop.
His tenure of office ends this September and he would be succeeded by the Right Rev Awortwi Pratt, Methodist Bishop of Accra.
The Most Rev Prof Asante spoke of the need for everybody to identify with efforts at building strong social cohesion and harmony at all levels of the society.
He chastised self-professed prophets whose teachings and prophecies were doing more harm and wreaking havoc on the society.
�These people with no knowledge of true Biblical doctrines are setting up families against one another by their utterances and actions and this is breaking our society apart.�
He said he found it heartbreaking the manner in which these charlatans accused people, particularly the elderly of witchcraft, and made up stories against the innocent and warned that this was endangering the peace.
He entreated genuine Christians to remain focused and abide by Biblical tenets to achieve spiritual growth.
He vowed to continue to work tirelessly in the service of God, the church and humanity.
