A witness in the trial of Lester Ekow Micah has stated that the substance suspected to be Indian hemp, which was found at the residence of the musician, was shown to the accused. D/Cpl Evans Adu of the Airport Police told an Accra Circuit Court yesterday that when he found the substance in a bag in the room of the musician, he opened it and showed it to Micah. Insisting that the substance was found about one foot away from where the musician stood in the room, the police officer was emphatic that the accused said he used the said substance to perform as a musician. D/Cpl Adu, who ended his cross examination in respect of the case, was the first of three witnesses expected to testify in the trial for the prosecution led by ACP Moses Atibilla. He told the court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh how a case involving an alleged extortion reported against the musician of �Me Si Wu Hemaa� fame led to the discovery of the substance in a black polythene bag in another bag in the room of the Rastafarian. D/Cpl Adu said Micah, when questioned about the source of the substance, admitted ownership and told the police that he used it to �ginger� him in his music career. Sitting was adjourned until September 2, 2015. Charged with possession of narcotic drugs, Micah, 43, is said to have told the Police that he smoked the dried leaves in order to stimulate him. Micah has, however, denied the offence. Facts The facts of the case are that Micah is a resident of Ogbojo near Kokrobitey in Accra. On August 4 this year, Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigation. According to ACP Atibilla, a day after his arrest, at about 11:30 hours, the Police and Micah visited his (Micah�s) house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah�s backpack. The senior police officer stated that the popular reggae musician and president of the Music Council of Ghana admitted ownership of the exhibit and told the Police that he smoked the substance to stimulate his music career. Prosecution said the exhibit would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Crime laboratory for examination.
