Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul has described as “unfortunate” and “disappointing,” claims that the party’s Members of Parliament have stopped supporting it financially.
The party’s National Chairman, Paul Afoko released a statement, alleging that the monthly payments from its Members of Parliament ceased in February 2015.
Nitiwul who was not enthused about claims in the statement said: “I am disappointed issues concerning the NPP are back on the front burner, purportedly through our National Chairman. I don’t want to believe it unless someone can confirm that the National Chairman caused that publication to be made but if he did that through the Spokesperson then that is very very unfortunate.”
He wondered why Afoko released the statement especially when National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had set up a committee to look into the issues being raised by the rank and file of the party.
“It is unfortunate because the party held it’s NEC meeting two days ago. Since the 23rd of March, we have never had a NEC meeting. It was just about two weeks ago, we had a peaceful meeting and the party set up a committee to look into all these matters that are being alleged.”
“We have stated in the meeting that issues in the NPP should cease from being discussed on air because it is not in the interest of the people of Ghana, it is not in the interest of anybody,” said.
Nitiwul said the party members were only waiting on the committee to complete it’s investigations into the issue only to realise that Afoko had released a press statement on the issue.
He further denied claims that the Treasurer, and first Vice Chairman of the Party, Abankwah and Freddie Blay had diverted party funds, saying, “nobody has pocketed the party’s money.”
