NPP MPs Decision To Stop Funding The Party Has Nothing To Do With Afoko And Agyepong - Minority Leader

Minority leader of Parliament from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu says the decision of the NPP MPs to stop funding the party has nothing to do with the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong and the National Chair, Paul Afoko.

According to him, the assertion raised by the spokesperson of the NPP National Chairman, Nana Yaw Osei that the NPP MPs have stopped giving money to the party due to the two executives are unfounded and without any truth.

Speaking Okay Fm’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu insisted the decision was taken by all the NPP Members of Parliament when the party refused to adhere to the directive to retain most the sitting MPs during the Parliamentary elections.

The running of the party he said is the full responsibility of the Minority caucus as the party is in opposition.

Stressing that since the party turned a blind eye to the directives which was earlier agreed to contract neutral body to access the performance of the MPs before deciding to contest them, forced the MPs to rather invest their monies into their various constituencies during the parliamentary primaries.

“This meant to the MPs that each for himself, God for us all; they abolished the directive and everybody joined the race to contest for the primaries. So the MPs decided that instead of giving the money to the party, we will use it for our campaign because those who are contesting us from outside are not paying any money to the party but rather use theirs for the contest,” he explained.

He added that “despite our effort to help the party at the National and Constituency levels, the party said all these didn’t matter so everybody should contest and that’s why the Minority caucus decided that from that moment onwards, we will stop giving money to the party’s head office and rather direct it to our welfare at the constituency level for the campaign.”

He therefore slated that in a meeting with the NPP’s Steering Committee, he told the reason behind the MPs decision and not as speculated that the two executives [Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong] are the cause of the MPs drastic decision.

He further revealed that plans are far advanced to review the earlier decision by the Minority caucus when Parliament returns from recess.
