Chereponi Cautions NDC And NPP

Leaders of the various political parties, most especially the NDC and the NPP, have been cautioned not to try and manipulate the youth in the Northern Region to take up arms and cause mayhem and launch reprisal attacks against each other in the up-coming Chereponi bye-elections. The Northern Regional NDC Youth Organiser, Mr Tanko Rashid Computer, who issued the warning, blamed the hierarchy of the two leading political parties as being the brain behind recent electoral violence that seems to be characterizing the countrys politics. He cited the just ended Akwatia re-run of 6 polling station and chaotic events recorded over there as an example. We want peace, they shouldnt bring their violence here as they did in Akwatia, he said. According to him, instead of preaching peace, these political leaders manipulate and mislead the youth to engage in violent acts. Mr Tanko Rashid Computer was responding to questions on how best to prevent future occurrences of electoral violence, particularly in the upcoming Chereponi bye-elections, during Peace FM News. Earlier this month, the Electoral Commission (EC), set September 29th, 2009 for the Chereponi bye-elections. This is to fill the vacuum created in Parliament as a result of the death of the NPP MP for the area, Hon. Doris Asibi Seidu, who passed away on July 31st.
