Parliament Needs Experienced Hands Avoka

Veteran politician and the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bawku West constituency, Cletus Avoka, has submitted his nominations forms to contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for another term. The former Majority Leader and Interior Minister is optimistic of retaining his seat and explained that, he is making the move because parliament, as a legislative institution still needs experienced, knowledgeable and informed members to articulate government programmes and policies critically. Parliament needs experienced legislators and parliament will need those with institutional memories to carry out the works in the house. so I know that in every elections we have a combination of new and old parliamentarians and if all the old parliamentarians leave, at the end of the day we are going to have only new MPs, that will be a challenge to the legislative development of this country, he argued. He added that NDC senior members of parliament should support President John Mahama in the 2016 general elections by contesting the parliamentary seats to win massively for the party. Arguing for his re-election, Mr. Avoka said about 90% of his common fund have always been spent on scholarship for needy students in his constituency, to further their education. According to him, between 150 - 200 people from Zebilla have gained employment into the security services because of his help. He also said his is pushing for the completion of the ongoing rural electrification project in his constituency. Mr. Avoka is being challenged by the current District Chief Executive (DCE) of Zebilla Simon Ayande Agbango, the former DCE, Alhaji Anaba Adam Moro.
