"I Am Not Contesting Takoradi Seat"

Mr Famous Ntumi-Acquah, Western Regional Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress, has said he is not ready to contest the Takoradi seat as a Member of Parliament. His declaration not to contest the race, comes in the face of numerous rumours among the rank and file of the Regional branch of the Party that "Mr Aidoo ", the current Regional Chairman was "pushing" his boys into the upcoming primaries of the party. When the Ghana News Agency caught up with the Communications Director, who is also a lecturer at the Takoradi Polytechnic, he said, 'I have also heard the rumours being peddled around but my interest is not in contesting the seat now". Mr Ntumi- Acquah, however, expressed the desire to one day stand on the NDC ticket to canvas for support and vote in future parliamentary elections, adding, "My focus now is to see our party retain power and continue the good works ". Meanwhile a visit to the constituency office of the party revealed that only one person had picked forms to contest the Takoradi seat, which now has Kobby Okyere Darko Mensah of the New Patriotic Party as the occupant. Mr Elaisu Abdul-Raman, NDC constituency chairman, confirmed to the GNA that the current Deputy Western Regional Minister was the only person, who had picked forms so far. It would be recalled that Mr Alfred Ekow Gyan, Western Regional Deputy Minister contested the seat in 2012 parliamentary elections but lost it to the NPP candidate.
