Husband Kills, Buries Wife

A man and two accomplices have been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife, Yaa Brokuwaa at Joma Agbozome near Weija in Accra.

The man, a farm hand is said to have murdered his wife for failing to buy him cigarette that he had asked for. The two accomplices then assisted him to bury her in a farm and later absconded.

The body of the 49-year old woman was exhumed by the police yesterday. The exhumation exercise was led by DSP Kpordje, accompanied by Dr Robert Kumoji, a pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and officials from the Health Unit from the Ga South Assembly.

Around 9am a large crowd from the village has trooped to the scene around to catch a glimpse of the body. Relatives of the deceased were seen crying uncontrollably and raining insults on the suspects when the body was exhumed and transported to the mortuary.

DSP Kpordje told journalists that his outfit had information three months ago from a complainant (name withheld) that a man has killed his wife and together with other people buried the body.

He said investigations revealed that Larry sent the wife to buy him cigarettes from Joma town but on her return she forgot to buy the cigarettes but rather took alcohol. DSP Kpordje said the deceased husband met them halfway and not satisfied that the cigarette was not bought rather became offended and assaulted her before a witness.

He said the husband started dragging her on the path and along the line he pulled off the trousers the woman was wearing and tied it around the neck and dragged her.

“The next thing is, we received a call from the police at Kwahu Praso that the husband has been arrested there and we went for him,” he said.

The Commander said the place of burial was identified in July but the police had to go through processes before the exhumation.
