Chief Imam, Nakoa Confer To Promote Peace

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh D. Usman Nuhu Sharabutu, and the Spiritual Leader of the Prophets of Spiritual Churches Council, Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson, have implored religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peace and peaceful co-existence among the various religious groups. In addition, they said religious leaders should not leave the issue of same-sex marriage on only the President, but instead use the Holy Books (Bible and Quran) to enlighten their followers on the issue. Call The two leaders said this last Thursday when Sheikh Dr Sharabutu paid a courtesy call on Nakoa Jamson at his residence at the Israel King of the Jews Church at Dome, near Accra. The visit was aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between the two religious leaders. It was also to provide the platform for the two to discuss issues of national concern. Stance Welcoming the Chief Imam, Nakoa Jamson said President Mahama should not be forced to declare the countrys stance on the gay and lesbian issues, since he had to respect the 1992 Constitution, which guided the running of the country. Moreover, what if the President leaves today and another President comes to declare another thing; what do we do?, he asked, adding that the clergy and imams should rather discuss the abominable issues with their members. Initiatives He commended the Chief Imam for the laudable initiatives he had undertaken over the years to ensure peace and tranquility among Ghanaians. I am glad to see my father in my house today, and I am very happy. In fact, ever since I met His Eminence the Chief Iman, my work has been progressing every day, he said and added: Our relationship has been awesome. Gratitude For his part, the Chief Imam expressed his gratitude to Nakoa Jamson for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage, and stated that the Spiritual Leader should be accorded the respect given to him as the Chief Imam. Ghanaians, he said, should not antagonise one another on religious grounds because God did not create them to fight among themselves but to live in unity, peace and harmony for the development of the country. He said he would continue to preach peace and goodwill among men. In the last two years, Nakoa has presented various food items to the Chief Imam at the end of the Ramadan.
