DCEs Run Away From Primaries

Four Out of five of President John Mahama’s representatives in the Kwahu area in the Eastern Region, failed to contest in the forthcoming primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite calls from their supporters to do so.

The four are Dr. Alex Somuah Obeng, Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Omari, Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Nana Antwi Siaw, Kwahu East District Chief Executive and Ibrahim Issaka of Kwahu Afram Plains South district.

The only person among them who is contesting is Windham Emil Afram, Kwahu Afram Plains North District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr. Afram and four others are fiercely contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North Constituency, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye.

The Daily Heritage investigations have revealed that some of the DCEs decided to stay out of the contest due to bad blood between them and some of their executives who are supposed to campaign with them if they win the primary.

Others decided to stay away to enable them concentrate on their assigned duties as president’s representatives.

Afram Plains North constituency has the highest number of contestants numbering six; they are, Emmanuel Aboagye Didieye, the incumbent MP, Betty Crosby Mensah, Windham Emil Afram, current DCE, Charles Evans Apraku, former DCE, Adamu Musah and Kpeli Wolase.

Afram Plains South constituency follows with four contestants, they are, Joseph Appiah Boateng, the incumbent MP, Francis Agbenyeagah, Bismark Ofosu and Osei Owusu. The Abetifi constituency has three contestants, they are, Samuel Asamoah, former DCE for Kwahu East, Emmanuel Tabi and Georgina Opoku with Mpriaeso and Nkawkaw constituencies having two contestants each.

The two contestants at Nkawkaw are Tamimu Halidu and George Odame Rockson with Emmanuel Boakye Koree and Kwame Anim Somuah contesting at Mpraeso.

In all, 81 people are contesting in the Eastern Region. The number consists of 72 men and nine women.
