Five Go Unopposed In NDC Primaries In Western Region

Seventy-two candidates out of 82 who picked forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries in the Western Region beat the deadline to file their nominations on Thursday, September 10. Unopposed While five are going unopposed in the Amenfi East, Bia East, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai and the Kwesimintsim constituencies, six others are slugging it out in the Jomoro Constituency. The five candidates are the incumbent Members of Parliament, Messrs Akwasi Oppong Fosu, Amenfi East; Augustine Arthur for Kwesimintsim, Richard Akyeampong, for Bia East, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Isaac Adjei Mensah for Wassa East, and Moses Armah for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai. Hot race Three constituencies which will see hot races are the Jomoro, the Amenfi West and Aowin where six candidates each are contesting for the seats. For Jomoro, Samuel Nde Blay Armah, Leo Kofi Armah Amenlemah, Thomas Elleamo Yankey, Francis Akatsia Kwadu, Henry Woku Alimah and George William Somiah will lock horns to undo each other. The other hot spot is Amenfi West, with John Gyetuah, Eric Afful, George Dadzie Jnr, Gordon Adu Sarfo, Gerrard Dankwah and Peter Kwesi Aidoo pitching their strength to win the slot. Aowin completes the list. Patrick Cobbinah, the incumbent Mathias Kwame Ntow, Dr Joseph Nyensu, Nana Meisu Adu, Frank Kwakukyi Ackah, the District Chief Executive, Oscar Ofori Larbi, engage in an uncompromising race. In the Sekondi and the Bia West constituencies, five each are contesting. The Sekondi Constituency ticket is being eyed by Capt (retd) Anthony Cudjoe, Betty Bosomtwe Sam, Emmanuel Assifuah, Armah Nyamekye and Charlotte Odum. In Bia West, the incumbent, Mr Michael Coffie Boampong, Alexander Senwu, Mustapha Abudu, Kobina Tweneboah Koduah and Augustine Tawiah are the contestants. For the Mpohor seat Eric Kwaku Kyeremah and Albert Awotwe will engage in a fierce contest. In the Esikado Ketan Constituency, the contest is between Messrs Patrick Harley, Abbey Hart and Joe Mensah while Mohammed Ali, Alfred Ekow Gyan, the Deputy Western Regional Minister and Ms Jane Ansah contest in the Effia Constituency. Eyeing slot The incumbent, Mr George Aboagye, and Sam Pee Yalley, Ghana�s High Commissioner to India, are eyeing the slot for Ahanta West. Evalue Ajomoro Gwira is being contested for by the incumbent, Kweku Tanikyi Kesse and Hubert Kuah Dickson. The Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and Miesah Miah Alliah will slug it out at Ellembelle. The contestants for the Tarkwa Nsuaem slot are Okyere Baiden and Kwame Dzokoto. Those going for the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency are the District Chief Executive, Wisdom Cudjoe, Siedu Esilfie and the incumbent, Francis Koffie Adu-Blay. For Amenfi Central, those contesting are Emmanuel Ntiakoh, Kwakye Ackah, the District Chief Executive and the incumbent George Kofi Arthur. The Suaman Constituency would see a race by the incumbent, Stephen Ackah, Essiaku Emmanuel, Alexander Yao Hedidor and James Affum. The incumbent, Sampson Ahi, is contesting with Mr Owusu Ansah for the Bodi ticket while the incumbent Kobina Mintah Akandor and John Mbe vie for Juaboso. The Sefwi Akontombra constituency has the incumbent Harold Cobbinah, Kenneth Yeboah and Mumuni. In the Wiawso Constituency has the Western Regional Minister, Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, Adansi Bonnah, Thomas Armah and Dr Amoako contestants.
