Police Brutalities Shameful Sammi Awuku

National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku has described as “shameful” police brutalities at the demonstration by pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance to demand a new voters register for the 2016 general election.

The police in their bid to prevent protesters from storming the Electoral Commission and Parliament fired tear gas and beat protesters with horse whips in attempts to cow them into submission.

They also arrested a lot of the demonstrators including Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Kofi Brako and other leading members of the group.

But speaking on Asempa FM Wednesday, Sammy Awuku expressed shock at the conduct of the police who are supposed to maintain law and order.

“For you to move beyond hot water to pepper spray and teargas is sickening; it is a shame for the police administration and the people behind it” he stressed.

The NPP youth leader noted that the police by their conduct are setting a bad precedent ahead of the 2016 general elections.

He accused the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) of instigating the police to harm unarmed citizens exercising their fundamental human rights.

“The action of the police has formed an indelible image in their minds of Ghanaians that the government is an enemy of the people” he added.

Sammy Awuku warned of dire consequences if the police continue to subvert the will of the people.
