Dont Use Technicalities To Free Incriminated Judges - Peace Council Chair

Chairman of the National Peace Council,Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante and Presiding Bishop, Methodist Church Ghana has cautioned the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council investigating the judges who are implicated in the Anas judicial bribery scandal not use technicalities in the law to set the beleaguered judges free.

According to the Chairman of National Peace Council, if the video which was shown at the Accra International Conference Centre is taken into account, the judges in the video should not escape punishment.

Speaking on Oman Fm’s National Agenda, Rev Professor Asante bemoaned the Tuesday September 22, 2015 documentary shown by the ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas about 34 lower and high court judges is an indication that the country is rotten in corruption.

The Peace Council Chair stressed that the series of Anas videos about corruption in the country should be taken serious as nothing concrete has ever happened in the previous Anas exposé involving public officials.

He however made passionate appeal to the Chief Justice and the Judicial Council to restore back confidence in the judiciary as judges are trading justice in their rooms; adding the outcome of the Judicial Council’s investigation will determine how the country is prepared to accept verdicts of judges.

“What I saw as an audience at the Accra International Conference Centre is shameful, to see how judges are trading justices; I don’t have technical eyes but if I take Anas video into consideration then corruption has gained root in the country,” he bemoaned.

“The Chief Justice and Judicial Council looking into the case should not use technicalities in their investigation to free the judges….the video is shameful and it is sad to see our trusted judges stoop so low to pervert justice because of money and goat,” he chided.
