Kotoko Offload Seven Players After Poor Season

The Porcupine Warriors have officially released seven players after a poor season which saw them battling relegation throughout. Asante Kotoko have released seven players following their abysmal campaign in the just-ended season which nearly saw them face relegation. Coach David Duncan, who came on board by midseason to guide the team in their title defence, was not impressed with the output of the affected players and has recommended they should be released. Kotoko lost the league and FA Cup titles to regional rivals Ashantigold and Medeama SC respectively. Notable players among the seven released include former captain Jordan Opoku and winger Richard Mpong as well as youth graduate Smallboy Korbah. The season has ended and it is normal practice to review how things went with the objective of improving or making things better next season," a club statement read. The seven players are defenders, Smallboy Korbah and Akwasi Acheampong; midfielders Richard Mpong, Prince Baffoe, Richard Oti and Jordan Opoku. Striker, Latif Amadu completes the list. "The two others who have been loaned to Lebanese sides are Michael Akuffu[Al Ansar] and Amed Toure[Al Nejmeh]," it added. Goal understands that the Porcupine Warriors are in talks with reigning goal king Kofi Owusu and Godfred Saka for a possible move to the Kumasi-based outfit. After winning the title on three consecutive seasons, Kotoko finished 6th last season with 42 points on the 16-team league log, two points away from the drop.
