The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, on Thursday joined Muslims in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region for prayers to mark Eid-Ul-Adah.
Muslims across the world yesterday celebrated the festival, which stresses the importance of sacrifice and total submission to the will of Allah.
The NPP leader was in the Western Region for a three-day “Rise and Build” tour.
Nana and his entourage, including John Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister; Hon Freddie Blay, 1st Vice Chairman of NPP; Otiko Djaba, Women’s Organizer and Ben Kwaw, Acting Regional Chairman of the NPP, were accorded a rousing welcome when they arrived at the Takoradi Jubilee Park to attend the programme.
Clad in beautiful apparels, the worshipers prayed for the sustenance of the relative peace Ghana is enjoying in the West Africa sub-region.
The Muslims, led by the Takoradi Chief Imam, Alhaji Mohammed Awal, also prayed for peaceful elections next year.
The NPP standard bearer later made cash donations to help in the celebration and the creation of a new cemetery for the Muslim community and another one for the chief Imam.
Nana requested prayers for the nation, the Electoral Commission and himself, ahead of the 2016 elections.
Addressing the worshipers, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Alfred Ekow Gyan, asked for religious tolerance by all the faithful in Ghana.
“This has become necessary in view of the fact that religious intolerance is breaking the world apart,” he explained.
He mentioned that religious tolerance is a necessity of life, if people are to progress.
He indicated that almost all religions preach the existence of a Supreme Being who is very kind and loving and hates wrongdoing in whatever form.
The deputy regional minister therefore called on the various religious sects to submit themselves to the Supreme Being in love.
