The Police Service are aiming to curb seething tensions which exists in a suburb of the Ghanaian capital, Accra, after last week's tribal conflict led to the death of three people in Agbogbloshie. With settlers at Agbogbloshie, a suburb of Accra, migrating from the northern part of the country, the Northern Regional Police Command are mounting roads checks on Accra-bound vehicles from the region for guns and other offensive weapons in their bid to prevent any reprisal. Reports claim that some youth in the area are amassing weapons and warriors to come to Accra to battle each other after the clashes believed to be between Abudu and Andani youth using NDC/NPP as a veil to cover the actual precursor of the violence. Last Tuesday�s violent clashes was said to be a turf war between NDC and NPP supporters though analysts say there was certainly more than fighting for space and that the disturbances had chieftaincy undertones. But the Northern Regional Police Command in an interview with an Accra-based radio station, Joy FM says the measures are being put in place to prevent people from moving to Accra to disturb the fragile peace. With the Police on the look out for mass travelers, especially the youth to Accra, ACP John Awuni says the Police would not entertain any misbehavior in the area and cautioned against acts of indiscipline. �I just returned from Tolon where we heard one of the boys (killed in Accra comes) from and the place is calm. We�ve gone to Yendi and we are talking to some of the leaders of both factions to consider it as something that should not degenerate into full scale violence in which innocent lives will be lost,� he added. Despite the actions by the Police, a group known as the Concerned Citizens of Tamale is appealing to the youth not to allow themselves to be used by self-seeking to politicians to commit violent crimes. Basharu Alhassan Dabali, spokesperson for the group said, it was important for the youth to exercise maximum restraint and not take the law into the own hands and reminded them that in this month of Ramadan, as Muslims, they were bound to show tolerance and embrace peace.
