Presidency To Blame For Corruption - Koans Boss

Koans Building Solutions boss, Kofi Anokye, has laid the blame for the widespread corruption at the doorstep of President John Dramani Mahama in his response to Anas’ expose’ of the judiciary.

According to the tough spoken Building Engineer, the fact that the Presidency is considered a ‘hub for corrupt people’ by majority of Ghanaians makes every effort to tackle corruption a waste of time.

Mr Anokye who was not impressed with the manner in which The President moved Elvis Afriyie Ankrah to the Presidency amidst numerous allegations against him at the Sports Ministry said “that act alone officially sent the signal that the president had no vision to battle corruption in his own backyard”

He indicated that, the judges being humans and ‘not immune to desiring the good things in life’ don’t find enough examples to make them stand firm when tempted with money because virtually every sector, led by the presidency seems to be swimming in the rot of corruption and getting worse by the day”.

When a judge after 20 years of service is required to park his Pasat by the road whilst in traffic to allow a minister with much less educational qualification, less than five years working experience to pass by in his V8, how do you expect him to act afterwards? He quizzed

He noted that, even though judges fingered deserve to be dealt with if the law is to be applied to the letter; the attitude of government against corruption so far gives the judges the right to be freed because indicted government appointees are still walking scot-free.

If people in government will be freed and even promoted when they act corruptly, then the judges are also Ghanaians and therefore deserve to be freed.

This not about fighting corruption in the judiciary but about the whole country embarking on national cleansing starting from the Presidency”

When I see Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and others still at post and still feeding on the tax payers money and comfortably in the president’s bosom, I see no reason why the judges should be punished because it will not reverse the trend or change the attitude of the people towards corruption so long as the president and his team are not trusted“.

As it stands now, the government has lost the moral right to punish the judges because they themselves are not clean. According to him, "people are inspired to die for their nations when they see and believe their leaders to be doing same because the head takes the lead before the whole body follows”.

Mr Anokye who called for the need to take the fight against corruption to basic education level said the approach should be one of up-bottom and not bottom-up.

When the head is clean and okay, the whole body will be affected, but when the head is rotten, the whole body will be affected.

The GREDA Member who was very vocal about the failed STX Housing deal and even boldly predicted it to fail before it actually did is of the view that government is largely responsible for the corrupt state of the nation and nothing can be done to avert the downward spiral of our morality if nothing changes with the way leadership conducts itself.

He commended Anas and his team for the good work they are doing and challenged them to target the presidency and expose the rot there ones and for all.

Mr Kofi Anokye was honoured at the 2015 International Socrates Award in Rome over the weekend. He received : The Golden European Award For Quality and Business Prestige in the Real Estate Sphere.
