Photos: Blood Flow At Akooko As Residents Fight 'Sakawa' Fetish Priest

Residents of Akooko located between Suhum and Kyebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana on Tuesday embarked on a demonstration to register their anger against a fetish priest in the area.

They allege Nana Saka has been engaging in money rituals popularly known as Sakawa for people by using human beings for his sacrifice. Determined to teach the fetish priest a lesson, the angry mob ended up razing down his house and destroying his belongings worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Peeved followers of the fetish priest retaliated by firing live bullets at the mob claiming the protestors were encroaching on their territory- killing one lady in the process and injuring several others in the process.

Peacefms Michael Akrofi was at the scene and reports that matters escalated after Nana Saka failed to attend a crunch meeting scheduled for today - Tuesday 29th September, 2015 - which was called by the elders of the town.

According to him, the chief of the town had met with his subjects and planned to banish the fetish priest from the town, ostensibly to curtail the loss of human lives.

His failure to show up infuriated the people and led to this afternoon's disturbance.

"The police in the area, outnumbered by the mob, had to flee for dear lives when they tried to bring the situation under control," Michael Akrofi added.
