Police Vow To Tackle Robbery Upsurge

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, has vowed decisive action to tackle the upsurge of armed robbery and other violent crimes in the Amansie West District - an area rich in gold deposits. He directed the District Command to strengthen its patrols and intelligence gathering to prevent those who had chosen to live outside the law from having their way. The officers and men would have to up their game to give more protection to the people to regain their confidence. DCOP Boakye was addressing a meeting with the chiefs and people of Abore during a tour of the area to assess the security situation. This comes on the heels of recent reported cases of robbery attacks on mining companies and travelers, murders and violent confrontation between the youth and security personnel. The Regional Commander reminded personnel of the police service that they had a duty to protect life and property and said they could not disappoint. He, however, called for active support of the people by way of useful leads to track down and arrest the miscreants. He also underlined the need to establish additional police stations and police posts in the district and asked that the communities took steps to provide the structures. Once these had been done, the police administration would post personnel there to maintain strong presence. He further suggested the formation of Neighbourhood Watch Committees to complement the efforts of the police. DCOP Kofi Boakye later performed the ceremony for construction works to start on a police station at Dominase in the Bekwai Municipality.
