Veep Inspects Ultra-Modern Ferry At Akosombo

Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, yesterday inspected an ultra-modern large ferry and three state of the art lake transport vehicles at Akosombo, ahead of their inauguration.

He was given a ferry ride on the lake to enable him to appreciate the state of the facility. A pledge made by Late President Mills and President Dramani Mahama to the people of Kete Krachi and its environs.

This according to the Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur was is in line with government commitment in ensuring safety on the Volta Lake, and also as a means of transport for some communities along the lake.

Government continues to redeem its pledge to the people of Kete Krachi and its environs, as part of government’s commitment to addressing their concerns, especially issues relating to lake transport in the country.

According to the Vice President his visit and inspection was informed by an appeal by, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, Krachiwura at last Saturday’s Yam Festival at Kete-Krachi, calling for the Vice-President to ensure the restoration of pontoon services which was suspended some time ago.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur a man of his word promised to ensure that the pontoon was returned, hence his visit to Akosombo to see for himself how far works on the water buses and pontoons was constructed for them by the late President John Atta Mills to ease their movement in the area.

After the inspection and interacting with journalists, Mr. Amissah-Arthur stated that there were some minor works going on according to the engineers, so there were still testing to ensure that they did not have any defects before they were deployed to the various areas that they are supposed to be allocated to.

Currently the four – a large ferry and three water buses - are currently undergoing testing and defects correction at the Volta Lake Transport Company’s base at Akosombo in the Eastern Region, before it would be distributed to the various areas.

When works are competed the four would be deployed to Kpando and Kete-Krachi, while the other would be ready to serve any community that will require its services at a particular time.
