Nakpanduri Curfew Lifted After 17 Months

The Ministry of Interior has lifted the curfew on Nakpanduri and its neighbouring towns in the Northern Region.

This takes effect from Friday, October 2nd 2015.

A statement signed by the Minister of Interior Mark Owen Woyongo said the decision was taken based on the recommendation of the Northern Regional Security Council (NRSC)

According to the statement “this follows the smoking of a peace pipe between the factions in the crisis and their commitment to live in peace.”

A dusk to dawn curfew was imposed on the Nakpanduri district in April 2014 following violent clashes between the Mamprusis and Konkombas.

The Ministry also commended the people of Nakpanduri for agreeing to live in peace and harmony and entreated towns with feuding factions to emulate them.

“The Ministry for the Interior urges the people of Nakpanduri to continue to resort to peaceful means in solving their problems.”

The statement said the NRSC also recommended for the review of the curfew on Bunkprugu and its environs from 8:00pm to 6:00am.

Meanwhile, the curfew hours of Bimbilla, Alavanyo and Nkonya remain from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
