The Ministry of Education (MoE) has paid a cheque with the face value of Four Million Five Hundred (GHC4.5m) to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to enable it clear all outstanding arrears of teachers transfer grants as well as not more than three months arrears.

The payment covers staff car maintenance allowance, motorbike maintenance allowance, bicycle maintenance allowance, as well as allowance for transfer grant, committee of Council members, guide allowance and overtime allowance.

This is in fulfilment of a pledge made on Wednesday, 30th September, 2015 to the leadership of the Coalition of Concern Teachers (CCT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NGRAT) at a meeting at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.

It will be re-called that the two teacher unions had notified government of the intention of their members to lay down their tools if the arrears were not paid and other grievances addressed by 7th October, 2015.

The Ministry assures all members of CCT, GNAT and NAGRAT that efforts are being made by all the stakeholders to have the outstanding issues addressed as soon as practicable.
