Betty Mould Is Ghanas Unprecedented Thief Says Seasoned Journalist

The week has certainly been challenging for the Vice Chair of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Betty Mould-Iddrisu after passing remarks, which some consider to be sacrilegious, against her native home - the Ashanti Region.

The backlash has been quite massive in spite of the apology she rendered days after making the offensive remark. Latest to spew venom at her is 'Obotantim' Kwabena Kwakye.

The host of Oman FM’s Boiling Point programme described Betty Mould-Iddrisu as an “unprecedented” female “thief” in the annals of the country's political history in view of the amount of money some allegedly claim she stole from the state.

According to him, Betty Mould-Iddrisu has no challenger when the list of female Ghanaian politicians who have succeeded in amassing substantial ill-gotten gain through politics is announced.

Betty Mould-Iddrisu in an address to supporters in the Ashanti Region a couple of days ago, stated that she was unhappy with the media in the region when it comes to how they trumpet achievements of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

“...Sometimes when I listen to the radio and I hear the things that are said on the radio, I feel pained, I feel pained that I am an Ashanti. I wonder why we can’t value what we have. I wonder why we can’t acknowledge that in Africa, Ghana is number one and among the top five countries,” she heard saying in tape that has gone viral.

She insisted Ghana, in the last seven years, has seen an unprecedented achievement in education and educational infrastructure under the NDC administration, and wonders why the press in the Ashanti Region are openly bias towards the ruling party.

The one-time Attorney-General has since apologised profusely for her remarks in an exclusive interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on NEAT 100.9 Fm.

I am a true Ashanti and would not turn my back on my heritage. My words were twisted and would want to say sorry to all who have been hurt as a result of my statements,” she said on Tuesday.

But it appears some journalists hailing from the region still have a bone to pick with her.

OmanFM's Kwabena Kwakye, speaking on his station's network, indicated that after carefully analyzing the contents of Betty Mould-Iddrisu message, he believes she spoke “nonsense”.

There is no woman in Ghana who has succeeded in defrauding the state like she has done”, he added.
