Government has rubbished claims by New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh that it deliberately jammed Accra-based Citi FM's frequency signal during a live studio interview with the party's flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu insists there is no iota of truth in the accusation, describing the claims as mere propaganda being churned by 'frustrated' NPP members.

“What the NPP is saying is just a blanket statement,” Kwakye Ofosu said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie'.

The NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, affectionately called ‘Napo’ insisted that government interfered with reception of signals for the public to 'clearly' listen to the “future president”, Nana Addo, when he stormed the station to address topical issues of national concern and his dream for the country.

“Citi FM was jammed by government. Some Ghanaians were not able to receive signals to listen to the interview,” the lawmaker allegedd on Asempa FM.

Even though the government communicator is disputing the claim, some ardent listeners of the Adabraka-based private radio station assert there was an unusual interference in the frequency whiles Nana Addo was live on air.

Some selected FM stations across the country were supposed to pick the signal from Citi FM in order to allow the interview have a wider coverage. The NPP claim government got wind of this and decided to jam the station's signal so those selected relay stations would not be able to broadcast the interview.

But Felix Kwakye Ofosu dismissed such suggestions saying the NPP flagbearer's interview on Citi FM was not 'relevant' to government.

“His [Nana Addo] message on Citi FM was not anything new to the government. His interview was not relevant to us. For the past 50 years in politics, Nana Addo has been saying the same thing in all his interviews so there is nothing new to listen to him again...to necessitate jamming a radio frequency,” he stated on NEAT FM.
