Two car-snatchers have been apprehended by the police in the Tamale metropolis of the Northern Region.
The two, identified as Abdul-Salam Abukari, 38, and Stephen Sugiri, 37, were arrested at Gushei, a farming community near Savelugu in the Savelugu/Naton district on Saturday.
The suspects, currently in police custody would be processed for court.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told The Ghanaian Times yesterday that the suspects were arrested with one taxi cab at a Gushei check point after a compliant had been lodged with the police.
He explained that the suspects, on Friday evening, chartered a taxi cab to travel to Bolgatanga, but at the outskirts of Tamale, Abdul-Salam, who was seated at the back seat stabbed the driver in the head and whiles he was struggling with him, Sugiri who was in the front seat pushed the driver out of the car and they escaped.
He stated that the driver who sustained minor injuries quickly went and lodged a complaint to the police.
He added that the police command relayed the message to all the checks in the region.
ASP Tetteh said when the police at the Gushei check point saw the taxi, they realized that the registration number and part of it fitted the description given and when the police started interrogating them, the suspects attempted to run, but were intercepted.
He said when the police arrested them, they claimed that one guy hired them to drive the taxi to Bolgatanga for an unspecified amount.
In a related development, the police have mounted search for armed-robbers who shot and killed a business woman and injured two other persons in a stretch between Zabzugu and Tatale last Friday.
