Following our publication in the Tuesday, October 13, 2015 edition of The aL-hAJJ announcing the presidential ambition of Dr Zenator Agyemang Rawlings, some gurus of the governing party have counseled the medical-trained daughter of the National Democratic Congress founder to get her act together if she indeed desire to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections.

Even though the NDC kingpins (who pleaded anonymity) are not against the aspiring parliamentary candidate in the Klottey Korle constituency succeeding President John Mahama, going into the 2020 elections, they say “she has a lot to learn in politics to prepare her well for the job.”

One of them who called into the Mamobi office of The aL-hAJJ a day after Dr Zenator Agyemang Rawlings’ one-on-one interview with Bernard Avle on Viasat 1 TV said, “from what I watched and heard her (Dr. Zenator) say, she has a long way to go…she must get her act together and quickly learn the ropes of the political game.”

Another NDC kingpin told The aL-hAJJ “I will love to see Zenator lead the NDC after President Mahama but I was not impressed with her interview with Bernard Avle. Until that interview, I was convinced that the NDC had gotten president Mahama’s successor. We know her father’s charisma, and we expected her to distinguish herself during the interview, but to me she did not.”

According to the NDC capo the 37 year old daughter of the former first family lost a major opportunity to warm her way into the hearts of NDC members who “may be harboring doubts about her Presidential suitability and even, her credentials”.

“It seemed to me she was more interested in herself and Klottey Korle constituency and not the NDC…all the things she said was about herself, her constituency, and nothing to project the party on whose back she is seeking to ride on to parliament… neither did she project the President. You cannot drink pork soup and yet, say you detest pork meat… if indeed she wants to be president on the ticket of NDC, then she must ‘properly identify’ with the NDC party and government.”

He said Dr Zenator lost “a very fine opportunity to tell the world of her commitment and loyalty to the NDC” when she declined to grade the performance of President John Mahama.

Dr Zenator, who was recently cleared to contest the November 7 parliamentary primaries of the NDC in the Klottey Korle constituency, refused to grade president Mahama when ‘pushed’ by host of Ghana Report on Viasat 1, Bernard Avle.

“I can’t rate Mahama. I’m not a rating organization. The elections next year will determine how the people see the government,” she said in her first major interview after officially announcing her intention to contest the Klottey Korle parliamentary seat on the ticket of the ruling party.

But an NDC guru based in Accra, who said he is in full support of a Zenator presidency in 2021, said “I think it was naïve on her part not to rate the president…if you can’t rate the man you want to succeed in 2020, do you think he will also support you when the time comes for him to do so?

If Zenator succeeds in becoming the flag bearer of NDC for the 2020 elections, she will ride on the records and achievements of President Mahama to enable her realize her presidential dream…she must settle down fast and get taught some of these things.”

Some of the NDC gurus were also not happy with Dr Zenator’s statement on another network that; “If my mother should come-back to the National Democratic Congress again, then the core issues that caused her exit must be addressed rightly and with the people who were involved,”

Dr. Zanetor Rawlings indicated in an interview on Kasapa Fm Tuesday that, her mum still has issues she feels strongly about and until they are resolved her return would remain a wish.
Adding that “it’s unfortunate my mum is with another party because she worked so hard in the NDC, and that cannot be taken away.”

But the NDC gurus are cautioning Dr. Zenator to heed to pollster and Daily Dispatch managing editor, Ben Ephson’s wise counsel not to involve her parents in her campaign as it could damage her chances for now.

Long before Dr Zenator made her intention known to run for the Klottey Korle seat on the ticket of NDC, The aL-hAJJ had picked intelligence that the former President’s daughter will stake a claim to the flag bearer post of the ruling party for the 2020 elections.

Her parliamentary bid, this paper gathered, is to prepare her for the “bigger opportunity” and get her acquainted with the intricacies of politics, especially on the African continent.
Mr Rawlings and wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and some NDC bigwigs are said to be neck deep in the present arrangement to get Dr Zenator to parliament for a term and later shepherd her to succeed President Mahama as the first female flag bearer of the governing party.

Meanwhile, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is set to officially launch her campaign this weekend with a ‘Health Walk’ ahead of the November 7 parliamentary primaries.
