Bawumia Thanksgiving Ceremony Hits Tamale

Hundreds of NPP supporters on Sunday thronged the Tamale residence of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party, Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia for thanksgiving prayers for his return from Mecca.

Alhaji Bawumia was part of Ghanaian Muslims who embarked on this year’s Islamic journey to Mecca to observe an important pillar of the religion.

His decision to therefore organize the prayer function to show his gratitude and appreciation to Allah favors was against the backdrop that this year’s pilgrimage was disaster stricken which claimed many lives.

The ceremony organized by the regional executives of the party saw the attendance of highly respected Imams, senior sympathizers of the party, former and current executives and a huge number of willing crowds of party supporters.

The clerics among other things recited the Quran, sang praises of Allah and offered prayers to Him for protecting Bawumia, his wife and the entire Ghanaians pilgrims to have a successful Hajj. They also prayed for those who lost their souls in the spiritual journey.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Northern regional secretary of the NPP, Mr. Sule Salifu explained the importance of the ceremony

He said, “The significance of his visit is to first of all, to thank the almighty Allah for sending and safely bringing him back to Ghana”

Sule believes the occasion also provided an opportunity to intensify the unity among some notable Muslim leaders in the region who were in the past noted for verbal attacks and billingsgate.

“It brings unity among the Muslim groups because during the Quran recitation, all the religious sects are involved”

Some Imams who spoke to peacefmonline.com said the function showed Alhaji Bawumia’s commitment to the course of Islam, adding that it was only leaders with God-fearing heart that can redeemed Ghana from the current economic quicksand and therefore urged Ghanaians to elect God-fearing individuals when they go to the polls later next year.

The regional scribe said the ceremony afforded family members, friends and to large extend supporters of his party a chance to welcome him back home and participated in the merry making.

The occasion will be replicated in Walewale; his hometown where he is scheduled to visit the Naa-Yiri.
